Switch to stainless steel containers in school catering from 2022 and avoid the use of plastic trays and bags
Potential implications: heavy work and investment if in-house washing
Alternative: Launch of France's 1st public AO for outsourced laundry services
The Uzaje mission
- + Over 100,000 bins washed per year at the Uzaje wash center in Avignon
- 6 tonnes of plastic waste avoided
- Pooling of washing equipment
- Non-relocatable jobs created on the Uzaje site
"We are proud to welcome Uzaje to our city's Marché d'intérêt national. This location is the result of our proactive policy in favor of the climate and a healthier quality of life. We chose to ban disposable plastic containers from our school canteens, three years ahead of the legal requirement. They are now replaced by stainless steel containers, which are washed by the Uzaje company for re-use. The company intends to recruit 40 people, 50% of them on integration schemes. Introducing Zero Plastic to protect our environment and our children's health, while creating jobs: the City of Avignon is fully committed to the ecological transition.
