Uzaje announces that it will soon cease operations
Following today’s hearing at the Bobigny Commercial Court, Uzaje, a company specializing in the industrial cleaning of reusable containers and packaging, announces that it will gradually cease operations by May 26, 2026. After a call for bids to take over Uzaje’s operations in February, followed by the company’s entry into receivership on March 31, no offer to take over Uzaje’s operations was presented at today’s hearing.
Founded in 2019, Uzaje set out to support the transition toward the reuse of packaging in the restaurant and food service industries, in response to the goals set forth in the EGAlim and AGEC laws, as well as the European PPWR regulation.
As a social enterprise committed to environmental and social impact, Uzaje has also made workforce integration and the creation of local industrial jobs a key focus of its development.
In just a few years, the company has experienced rapid growth with the opening of four industrial sites in Neuilly-sur-Marne, Avignon, Strasbourg, and Lyon Saint-Priest. Uzaje has thus facilitated the washing of more than 20 million reusable containers and helped create more than 50 industrial jobs.
Despite this momentum and the commitment of its teams, the company has not succeeded in establishing a sustainable business model in a market that has grown more slowly than anticipated. In fact, the specific terms and implementation timelines for regulatory reuse objectives by food industry stakeholders—particularly the eco-organization CITEO—remain unclear. This uncertainty has hindered plans for buyouts or new financing.
The Uzaje team is proud to have demonstrated that large-scale industrial reuse solutions are both feasible and operational. The company would like to thank all of its employees, customers, technical and financial partners, as well as the investors who have supported this entrepreneurial and industrial venture.
Until operations are fully wound down, our teams will remain on hand to provide the best possible support for the ongoing transitions involving our partners and clients.
